The Big Three

Moneyline, Spread & Total

Almost every basketball game offers these three core markets. Each one asks a different question about the same game.

🏆

Moneyline

Who wins the game?

Pick the winner outright. Overtime usually counts, so there's no draw to worry about. Heavy favourites pay very little.

Home 1.45 — ₹100 returns ₹145 if Home wins.
âš–ī¸

Point Spread

By how much?

The favourite gives up points, the underdog receives them. It levels the contest so both sides are priced close to even.

Home -3.5 must win by 4+. Away +3.5 wins the bet by winning or losing by 3 or less.
đŸ”ĸ

Total (O/U)

How many points?

Bet on the combined score of both teams going over or under a line. Pace and defence matter more than who wins.

Line 214.5 — 215 or more is Over, 214 or fewer is Under.
👤

Player Points

Over/under on a single player's points total.

🙌

Rebounds & Assists

Lines on boards, dimes or combined "PRA" totals.

⏱

Quarter & Half Lines

Winner, spread or total for just one quarter or half.

🏅

Futures

Season-long picks like champion or MVP. Funds stay locked longer.

Did the Spread Cover?

The point spread is the market new bettors find hardest. Enter a spread and a final score to see instantly whether a bet on the home team would win, lose or push.

A "push" happens when the margin lands exactly on a whole-number spread — your stake is returned. Half-point lines like -3.5 remove that possibility.

Game Structure

Four Quarters, Many Markets

NBA games use four 12-minute quarters; FIBA and most international games use four 10-minute quarters. Every segment can carry its own lines.

Q1

Opening Pace

Starters play heavy minutes. First-quarter lines reflect each team's starting five.

Q2

Bench Minutes

Rotations kick in. Bench depth can swing first-half results.

Q3

Adjustments

Half-time changes show up. Second-half lines are set at the break.

Q4

Closing Time

Fouls, timeouts and free throws can push totals late.

OT

Overtime

Five-minute periods. Usually included in moneyline, spread and total — check your rules.

What Moves Basketball Lines

01

Injury & Rest News

One star sitting out can move a spread by several points. Late scratches are common — check close to tip-off.

02

Pace of Play

Possessions per game drive totals. Two fast teams usually mean a higher line; two slow, defensive teams a lower one.

03

Back-to-Backs & Travel

Teams playing a second game in two nights, or after long travel, often look flat — especially on defence.

04

Home Court

Familiar arenas and crowd support usually give home teams a small, measurable edge reflected in the spread.

05

Matchups

A dominant big man against a small lineup, or an elite defender on a star scorer, can shape player props.

06

Your Budget

With games almost every night, it's easy to over-bet. Set a weekly limit and keep stakes consistent.

FAQ

Basketball Betting FAQs

A point spread is a handicap that evens out a game. The favourite must win by more than the spread, while the underdog can lose by less than the spread (or win outright) for a bet on them to succeed.

On most platforms, overtime counts for moneyline, spread and total markets. Quarter, half and some player markets may settle differently, so check the rules on your ID.

A push happens when the result lands exactly on a whole-number line — for example, a team at -4 wins by exactly 4. The bet is neither won nor lost, and the stake is usually refunded.

Player props are markets on an individual's stats — points, rebounds, assists, three-pointers or combinations. If the player doesn't play, the bet is usually voided, but rules vary.

Moneyline is simpler because you only pick the winner. The spread adds a margin to think about, but offers more balanced prices. Many beginners start with moneyline to learn.
