Indian Rummy Guide & Rules
13-card Indian Rummy is about arranging your hand into sequences and sets faster than your opponents. Learn what makes a valid declaration, how jokers work, how points are counted and which format suits you.
What Makes a Valid Declaration
Each player gets 13 cards. On your turn you draw one card and discard one. The aim is to arrange all 13 into valid groups and declare before anyone else.
At least two sequences
Your hand must contain a minimum of two sequences â runs of three or more consecutive cards of the same suit.
One must be pure
At least one sequence must be pure: no joker used. Without a pure sequence, the declaration is invalid.
Every card grouped
The remaining cards must form valid sequences or sets. Any card left over counts against you.

Pool Rummy
Players are knocked out once their score reaches a limit, usually 101 or 201. The last player standing wins.

- Longer sessions
Deals Rummy
A fixed number of deals is played with chips. Whoever has the most chips at the end wins.

How Points Are Counted
When someone makes a valid declaration, the other players count the value of their ungrouped cards. Lower is better.
Picture cards and Aces are worth 10 points each, number cards are worth their face value and jokers are worth zero. In many Points Rummy games the total is capped at 80, a first drop costs 20 and a middle drop 40 â check your table's rules.
